To live in wonder

To live in wonder

To live in wonder. The first signs of spring breaking through can already be seen in nature. And they are there to be noticed. To be wondered at.

When we give wonder more room, life can begin to feel richer. We often experience more connection. More gratitude.

Wonder in everyday life can quietly deepen the sense that life is still alive and meaningful.

How do you wonder? Nature is one of the strongest sources of it. Wonder can grow, for example, by:

• taking a walk in the woods and really pausing at the trees, animals, and sounds
• looking at the night sky and remembering the vastness of the universe
• standing before the sea or the mountains and letting their greatness sink in

If you would like to read more about this, I recommend Dacher Keltner’s book Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life. One beautiful exercise from the book is the "wonder walk":

• Walk for 15 to 20 minutes in a quiet place and pay close attention to what you see. Let yourself be surprised. If you like, take a photo so you can carry that moment with you. I take a wonder walk every week. It is a beautiful pattern to begin, even with a short walk during lunch.

I want to invite you today to take your own wonder walk. As an outdoor psychologist, I would love to walk with you in discovering the beauty that is there to be seen. And perhaps, from there, the first steps towards more freedom and a lighter way of thinking can begin.
